Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. Today, I wanted to share my little adventure trying to find a decent imitation of the Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar, you know, the fancy one with all the bells and whistles.
The Hunt Begins
I started, like everyone else, by just googling around. I typed in “Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual” and hit search. Pages and pages of stuff came up. I saw a bunch of real ones on Chrono24, going for, like, $27,000 or more. I was like,”Whoa, that’s a car!” I saw a Master Ultra Thin Moon ZF Side by side with Gen comparison. May 26. I looked at a lot of pictures, read some forum posts. People were talking about a JLC 868/1 movement and a bunch of parts, but I didn’t really get into all that technical stuff.
Digging Deeper
Then, I started looking specifically for the imitations. I knew there had to be some out there. I saw that people had a lot of questions, like where to get certain models or which ones were the best. I started to see some familiar names, you know, some of the makers that people talked about a lot. It was like a whole secret world.
Narrowing it Down
I focused on the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar, because, hey, go big or go home, right? I found a few that looked pretty good in the pictures, and they were way cheaper than the real deal, obviously. One had this Calibre 868 movement that people said was good. I read about 46 jewels and 336 parts, and 28,800 vph which sounds like a lot of moving bits.
The Decision
After a lot of looking and reading, I decided to go for one. It looked really close to the real thing, at least in the pictures. It had the same kind of layout, with all the little dials for the date, day, month, and year. Even the moon phase thing was there. The case looked really nice and thin, just like the original. I figured, for the price, it was worth a shot.
The Result
I ordered it, and when it arrived, I was pretty stoked. I mean, it’s not a real Jaeger-LeCoultre, but it’s still a really nice watch. I’ve been wearing it around, and people seem to like it. No one’s come up to me and called me out on it, so that’s good, I guess. And I realized that Rolex is renowned for its reliability, classic design, and precise in-house calibers. While Jaeger-LeCoultre, on the other hand, is celebrated for its design complexity, innovative movements, and more accessible pricing for entry-level luxury watch enthusiasts. I also learned that the Reverso collection is perhaps Jaeger LeCoultre’s most iconic line. It was originally designed for British officers in India who needed a watch that could withstand the rigors of polo. Now I know that Jaeger-LeCoultre watches are generally considered to be a good investment and tend to retain their value well over the years.
Anyway, that’s my story about trying to find an imitation Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar. It was a fun little project, and I ended up with a cool watch that didn’t break the bank. Maybe I’ll look into some other models later, but for now, I’m happy with this one.
