Well, that there Omega Speedmaster Date, you see, it’s a fancy name for a watch. My grandson, he’s always going on about these things. Says they’re important, like. This one, it tells the date, which is kinda handy, I reckon. You don’t gotta be squinting at no calendar all the time.
This Speedmaster, they call it. It’s got these little circles on it, they call ’em “subdials”. I don’t rightly know what all they do. One of ’em, I think, it’s for that date thing. They tell me that they have a Speedmaster Date, it is a very popular model. These little circles, some are closer together, some are further apart, it’s not the same. You have to look at the real ones, they must be in the right place. And that scale thing on the outside, that bezel, it’s gotta be just right. Sharp, they say. If not sharp, it means wrong, don’t buy it.
Some of them watches, you gotta wind ’em up yourself. Like them old clocks we used to have. Others, they wind themselves. I guess that’s what they mean by “automatic”. This Speedmaster Date, it’s probably one of them fancy automatic ones. My grandson, he says there are some models that has a date, I think they have a big hand pointing to the date, just like the hand on that old clock in our living room. He says that they called caliber 1040/1045 Speedmaster. He talks too fast. I do not remember much.
He also said that there is a book, called Moonwatch Only. I guess people who like watches all read it. It’s for those who want to buy an old Speedmaster. It can tell you whether the watch is real or not. He said that if you could buy one, it would be better. So you won’t be fooled by the fake one.

This Speedmaster Date, it ain’t the one that went to the moon, I don’t think. That moon one, they call it a “Moonwatch”. This one, it just tells the date. That Moonwatch, it’s a classic one, so many people like it. And they say that the design is almost the same for so many years.
These watches, they cost a pretty penny, I reckon. Not like them cheap ones you get down at the market. These are special, they say. If you got the money, I guess they’re worth it. But for me, I’m happy with my old watch. It tells the time, and that’s all I need.
That boy of mine, my grandson, he says there are many kinds of this Omega Speedmaster Date. Some is called Speedmaster ’57, it has a date window at that six o’clock position, he said. It is a hole on the watch, and you can see the date in that hole. I don’t know what that means. Maybe he will show me next time when he comes to visit.
This whole watch thing, it’s a big deal to some folks. They collect ’em, trade ’em, talk about ’em all the time. It’s like a whole other world, I swear. I don’t understand it all, but it makes ’em happy, I guess.
So, that Omega Speedmaster Date, it’s a nice watch, if you’re into that sort of thing. Just make sure you’re getting a real one, not some cheap knock-off. And if you got the money to spend, well, then I guess you can’t go wrong with one of these. They sure do look fancy, I’ll give ’em that. If you want to buy the Speedmaster Date, you should find someone who knows a lot about it. Or you will be fooled, and spend a lot of money on the fake one.
