Alright, let’s talk about this little project I got myself into. I decided to remake the Yves Saint Laurent YSL JUNE BOX BAG. Yeah, that’s the one, the classic style, looks pretty fancy, right?
So, first things first, I started by looking up everything I could about this “June Box Bag” they keep talkin’ about. Turns out, it’s not just any bag. This YSL Saint Laurent Bag ain’t your grandma’s purse, that’s for sure. It’s got this diamond-quilted thing going on, and a front flap with a shiny YSL Cassandre logo. Looks real sharp.
Now, I ain’t made of money, so I wasn’t about to buy the real deal just to copy it. I dug around and found some good pictures and descriptions. They say it’s made of lambskin, which is, like, super soft leather, I guess. And it’s got this “PIVOTING CASSANDRE CLOSURE“, which sounds complicated, but I figured I’d cross that bridge when I got to it. They sure are famous for those classic designs and quality.
I got my hands on some leather that felt pretty close to what I imagined lambskin to be. Then, I started cutting and sewing. The diamond-quilted pattern was a bit of a pain, not gonna lie. Took me a few tries to get it looking right. I used a regular sewing machine, nothing fancy. Lots of pinning and measuring, let me tell you.
- Cut the leather into the right shapes based on my research.
- Sewed the pieces together, trying to match the pictures I found.
- Spent way too long on that diamond pattern, but it had to be done.
- Figured out the flap and closure, which was trickier than I thought.
The closure was the hardest part. I didn’t have the exact same hardware, so I had to improvise a bit. Found some metal pieces at a craft store and made them work. It’s not perfect, but it looks pretty close to the pictures.
The Result
After all that work, I finally finished it. And you know what? It turned out pretty good! It’s not an exact replica, but it definitely captures the classic style of the YSL JUNE BOX BAG. I carried it around a few times, and I gotta say, it feels pretty fancy. I even got a few compliments! All the products ordered will be wrapped in a signature box.
So, that’s my story of remaking a fancy designer bag. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot about sewing and leather and all that. Plus, now I have a pretty cool bag to show for it. Might try another one of these remakes sometime. We’ll see!
