Alright, so, I’ve been itching to get my hands dirty with a new project, and what better way to do it than by remaking a Patek Philippe? I mean, who doesn’t love a good challenge, right? I decided to go with the PP Gondolo 7042/100G-010. It just looks so fancy.
First thing I did was to stare at pictures of this watch for hours. I mean, I looked at it from every possible angle. Front, back, sides, you name it. I wanted to get a good feel for the thing before I even started.
Gathering the Parts
Then came the fun part – getting all the bits and pieces I needed. I’m talking about the case, the dial, the hands, the movement, all that jazz. It was like a treasure hunt, you know? Going to different shops, looking online, it was a whole thing. But I’m telling ya, finding just the right parts to match the original? That was a pain.
- The Case: Finding a case that looked like the original was a big deal. I checked out a bunch of places, online shops, and actual watch stores. Took a while, but I found one.
- The Dial: Getting a dial that looked like the original one was a challenge, but I got one.
- The Hands: I found some hands that were pretty close to the real thing. It was tough, but I got there.
- The Movement: This was the tricky part. I wanted something that worked like the original. After some searching, I found a movement that fit the bill.
Putting It All Together
With all the parts in hand, I started putting this thing together. I started with the movement, making sure it was ticking away nicely. Then I carefully put the dial on. I gotta tell you, those hands are tiny! It was like doing surgery, but I managed to get them on without messing anything up.
Next up, I put the whole thing into the case. Now, that was a bit tricky. Making sure everything lined up right and fit perfectly. But after a few tries, I got it. Snapped the back on, and bam, it looked like a watch!
Finishing Touches
Of course, I wanted this thing to look as close to the original as possible. So, I spent some time polishing the case, making it all shiny and new. I even tried to copy some of the fancy details from the original, like the engravings and stuff. It’s the little things that make a difference, you know?
In the end, did it look exactly like a real Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100G-010? Not quite. But, I think I did a pretty decent job. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. And hey, I learned a ton about watches in the process. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s kind of addictive, you know? But for now, I’m just going to enjoy wearing my new creation.
So, that’s my little adventure in watchmaking. Hope you guys found it interesting. I enjoy sharing these little projects of mine. They’re fun, you know. Keep an eye out for the next one, who knows what I’ll get up to next time.
