Alright, so I’ve been tinkering around with this idea lately, you know, trying to make my own version of that fancy Patek Philippe watch, the Gondolo 7041R-001. It’s that classy rose gold one, looks super slick. I thought, why not give it a shot? It’s not like I can just go out and buy one, right?
First off, I started looking up pictures of the thing. I mean, a lot of pictures. Got to know every angle, every detail. Then I started sketching it out, just to get a feel for the shape and how it all comes together. It’s got this rectangular case, which isn’t something you see every day, so that was a bit of a challenge.
Next, I had to figure out what I was going to make it out of. I’m not using real gold here, obviously. I messed around with some different metals, trying to find something that had that rose gold look without, you know, costing a fortune. Ended up with some kind of alloy that looked pretty close.
So, I started shaping the metal. Cutting, filing, bending, the whole nine yards. Took forever, and my fingers were sore as heck, but eventually, I had something that started to look like the case of the Gondolo. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it was starting to take shape.
- Cut the metal: Used a saw to get the basic shape.
- Filed it down: Smoothed out the edges and got the curves right.
- Bent the metal: Carefully bent it to form the rectangular shape of the case.
Then came the dial. I tried a few different materials for this one. First, I tried just painting on a piece of metal, but that looked kind of cheap. Then I tried printing something out, but that didn’t quite work either. Finally, I found this thin sheet of metal that had a nice texture, and I used that. Cut it to size, painted on the markings, and stuck it on the case.
The hands were a real pain. I tried making them out of thin strips of metal, but they were just too fiddly. I ended up using some old watch hands I had lying around. They weren’t exactly the same, but they did the job.
Putting It All Together
Putting it all together was a whole other adventure. I used some glue to stick the dial on, and then carefully placed the hands. The movement was a bit of a problem. I couldn’t make my own, obviously, so I just used a cheap quartz movement I got online. It’s not the same as the fancy mechanical movement in the real Gondolo, but it keeps time, and that’s what matters, right?
Finally, I added a strap. I had this old leather strap from another watch that I thought looked pretty good with the rose gold. So, I attached that, and there it was. My very own homemade Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001.
It’s not perfect, not by a long shot. But it’s mine, and I made it. And honestly, I’m pretty proud of it. It’s a fun little project, and it’s got me thinking about what else I can make. Maybe I’ll try another watch next. Who knows?
If you guys are thinking about trying something like this, go for it! It’s a lot of fun, and you learn a lot along the way. Just be prepared for some sore fingers and a lot of trial and error. And hey, if you make something cool, let me know! I’d love to see it.
So yeah, I saw the price tag on the real Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001 and thought, “No way I’m paying that!” I heard they go for around $26,000 to $29,000 or even more. That’s crazy! So, I figured, why not try to make one myself? I mean, how hard could it be, right?
So, this is my take on the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001. Hope you guys like it! It’s a fun project, and it’s definitely cheaper than buying the real thing!
